The Mighty Boosh Review Pt. 2 : Season 2 and Changes

My last post was about the first season of The Mighty Boosh. As the title suggests, I'm going to review as best as I can the second season of the show and all the while acknowledging the changes the show goes through. To start off, Howard and Vince are no longer zookeepers and the setting is completely changed from the Zooniverse to an apartment (or flat) which is owned by the shaman Naboo and also inhabited by Bollo, who is now Naboo's animal spirit. Since Howard and Vince are no longer zookeepers, they're essentially retconned as two friends in a band trying to make it big. Their wardrobe is also more colorful and outlandish, or at least Vince's are:
The big issue I had the most was continuity, mainly because there is little to no continuity on the show. Bollo died in the first season but is brought back and events that happened in each episode are never mentioned again. Other than that, the second season in my opinion is the best of the whole series in visuals and stories. Not only do Fielding and Barrett play Vince and Howard this time around, they play an array of multiple characters. Barrett plays a monk like rock star named Rudi, a sandpaper monster, and the head shaman Dennis.

Fielding beats Barrett in the amount of characters he plays, from Rudi's bandmate Spider, to the recurring villain the Hitcher, the hermaphrodite merman Old Gregg and his "mangina", the bodiless and pink shaman Tony Harrison and even The Moon.

My favorite episode of season 2 has to be "Nanageddon", as it shows the most ridiculous plot in the whole season. Vince tries to impress some goth girls by conjuring a demon that turns out to be an old woman who's the evillest demon in dark magic, resulting in getting Naboo in trouble with the Board of Shamans. His rival, Saboo promises head shaman Dennis that he'll retrieve the spell book the demon took while Vince and Howard simultaneously dress as "glamour" nanas to take the book during a bingo game from hell. All I can say about that is, Vince looks good as a glamour nana:

The episode also is a good introduction to the other shaman who exist beside Naboo, and also shows the teamwork Howard and Vince display, albeit Vince's constant weakness of getting sidetracked with clothes, girls and boots. If the show had ended with this season, I wouldn't have any complaints. The same can't be said for season 3.
