The Mighty Boosh Review Pt. 3: Season 3 and Final Thoughts

I'm nearing the end of my three part review of The Mighty Boosh. Now all I have to do is review the third and final season and leave my final thoughts on the show as a whole. If only it were that easy. The final season of The Mighty Boosh didn't air until two years after the second one because the show itself was on tour for most of that time. As with season 2, the setting has changed again, but not as drastically. The flat is no longer the beginning of episodes and the series instead center on Howard and Vince running a second hand shop called the Nabootique for their friend and owner Naboo. I read in another person's review that Fielding and Barrett said in interviews that they wanted to take Howard and Vince to their extremes. Taking that into account, I felt this was a bad move as Howard is more of a Debbie Downer when things go wrong for him and the always flamboyant Vince is even more self absorbed to the point that he cares more about a colorful cape than helping Howard. That's not to say the show has gone completely downhill, just that not every episode isn't as memorable as they used to be. Two episodes come to mind that are the only real gems of season 3, the premiere episode "Eels" and second to last episode "Party". Eels does a great job at introducing the Nabootique and comparing and contrasting how Howard and Vince sell products to their clientele. It also is a great comeback for the Board of Shaman, who enjoy having a Stag weekend where they do nothing but sunbathe, get drunk and crack jokes about each other, all the while Naboo worries what Howard and Vince are doing at the shop. The Party episode in my opinion should have been the episode to end the series, as its a great callback to many popular characters in a plot that makes sense, the flat from season 2 is used again and has the best scene that fangirls can gush over. Yes I'm talking about this scene:
And NO this does not mean Howard and Vince turn gay for each other, it shows that in a life or death situation, they would anything for each other, even pretend their gay so a jealous husband won't cut off either of their heads. This scene redeems all the crap character traits they inherited this season and shows why they really are best friends (And let's face it, it caters to fangirls who always try to pair them together. Did I mention a running gag in the show is villains always calling Vince Howard's wife because of Vince's flamboyant clothes?).

My final thoughts on the show as a whole is its an entertaining and funny comedy from a country that I greatly admire. Yes, its surreal, but its fantasy surreal, meaning the world of The Mighty Boosh is a fantasy world where most of the characters that we know don't exist come to life and are sometimes treated as an everyday thing. I know people like to compare this show to "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job"and its because they're both surreal, Tim and Eric deal with reality occurrences and usually has no real plot, unlike the Mighty Boosh. I recommend this show to anyone who enjoys British humor and surreal imagery, which this show is full of.
